MEDIA RELEASE

President of Pedal Power ACT David Whitney today announced the appointment of Ms Cecily Michaels as Executive Director from Monday 12 August 2024. Cecily will replace our current Executive Director Simon Copland who is departing to take on a challenging new role.

Cecily Michaels’ appointment comes at an exciting time for Pedal Power as we build on our 50 years of successful advocacy. Our efforts have contributed to creating a better cycling environment, improved benefits for members including 24/7 insurance, and delivered highly regarded programs such as Big Skills for Small Bikes, helping countless children learn to cycle safely.

Cecily is highly qualified in corporate governance and has received NSW Government recognition for her work with volunteers in Western Sydney. She also has extensive experience from her previous roles on AusAID funded programs in Palestine and South East Asia.

Cecily’s most recent position was as Operations Manager with the Australasian College of Road Safety. Her experience in this role and as a recreational cyclist aligns strongly with Pedal Power’s focus on cycling safety and community engagement in the Canberra region.

We look forward to welcoming Cecily in joining the Pedal Power team as we prepare our campaigns leading up to the 19 October ACT Government Election.
